Dear World & Everyone in it: A poem by Benjamin Mullen

Dear World & Everyone in it
For the contributors to Dear World & Everyone in it: New poetry in the UK

My intellectuality is all there is to me.
There isn’t another person there that I can see
but isn’t another nothing there to pull me through.
Everything everyone else wants I want too.

Everything everyone else wants I want too–
So first on the scene as the first cast stone
And lacking the filling a doll’s hole’s due
And everything I ever do I do alone.

Everything I ever do I do alone.
Above all for the legend bring the known
Unopinionated white face of Zero into view.
Everything everyone else wants I want too

(What they want unfulfillably the selfsame goals).
Myths of each made then the dolls with a hole’s
Unfuckable flawed holes. I have my own:
Everything I ever do I do alone

With everything everyone else wants, and wish
From erroneous depths that it weren’t so true
That what isn’t is the person. Selfless or selfish,
Everything everyone else wants I want too

(And everything I ever want I want alone).
Not for the legend the nothing hangs here–
Named only in the light and accidentally shown
And in the need, not to lie, or act, but clear

Of intellect to suck the deep, blank blue
Air of the beyond. I want my own:
Everything everyone else wants I want too
And everything I ever do I do alone.
